Ralph F. Hawkins   1928-2020

Ralph F. Hawkins, age 91, passed away January 17, 2020 in Geneva.  Born August 6, 1928 to Edward & Alberta (Randall) Hawkins.  Ralph  served in the United States Coast Guard from 1951 – 1954.  He founded and owned Erie Ambulance Service in 1954.  In 1960, Ralph founded, owned and operated  El Paso Ambulance Service and Rescue Squad in El Paso, Texas.  This was the first of it’s kind, and was also a livery service.  In 1968, Ralph moved back to Ashtabula and founded  Hawkins Ambulance Service and Rescue Squad, which was also a livery service.  He was a Paramedic Instructor, and in his later years, he served as a security guard. 


Ralph started his own dance band called Ralph Hawkins Rhythmiers  in 1948, and started his own Drum and Bugle Corp about that same time.  Ralph was a boy scout reaching the highest level of Eagle Scout.  He enjoyed Ashtabula High School Football and the band playing drums.  Ralph enjoyed watching the Browns and Ohio State.


Throughout most of his life, he remained active in, and served his community.  Often volunteering his time and efforts, such as:  Teaching first aid and rescue techniques to not only, Firemen, Police and the Highway Patrol, but also to students and teachers in the schools and several community clubs or groups.  Ralph often volunteered an ambulance crew to stand-by at many school sports games, fairs, parades and festivals.  He helped organize parades in the community, and served as Parade Chairman for a few of them.  Ralph has received numerous awards and commendations for his many efforts and service throughout his life.



Daughters:  Rebecca Hawkins of Mt. Vernon and Nancy Teter of Westerville. 

Grandchildren:  Travis Teter; Tyler Teter; Katlyn Knierim.  

Great Grandchildren:   Chelsea Teter; Braylon Teter; Brianna Teter; Aribella Teter; Jayden Law and Evyn Law.

Ralph also leaves behind longtime girlfriend and companion, Linda Driscol

Interment:  Ridgeview Cemetery  with a private memorial
